Fast Food Friday - Nathan's Famous, Newark Liberty Airport NJ

I thought of Fast Food Fridays to have an opportunity to share my ever growing stash of random fast food meal photos. This inaugural, I'm starting with one of a definitely better meal I've had at airport terminals. A Nathan's Famous outlet in Newark Liberty Airport. I think it was Terminal-C.

Not that I'm highly recommending the place to some fellow traveler by any means.. Because I suffer from what I call "Junk Food is Greener on the Other Side" syndrome. Maybe it's the unfamiliar menu, idiosyncrasies of flavor, unique packaging, novelty of location.. most probably all the above, but other fast food outlets outside my day to day reach always seem so much cooler. :)

A regular dog with sauerkraut. Had a decent snap and good beefy flavor to boot.

The crinkle cut fries were pretty good though a bit soggy from sitting. Liked the little red plastic forks they give you. Adore the yellow cups with green letterings.

I haven't been to A&W in forever. The Dairy Queen at Tierrasanta was a bit of a disappointment but I still really need to check out Sonic in Santee!

hi dennis
you make a good point "the fast food is always greener on the other side". like when we went to chicago...we tried the chicago style dogs. i mean, a hot dog is a hot dog right, but we had to try it the chicago way (with mustard, dragged thru the garden, whatever they call it). normally i wouldn't even care about a hot dog in san diego, much less go out of my way to buy and eat one.

but when you're in a different city, it's always cool to try out that region's specialties...so why the hell not, right?

Hey Dennis! I like the FFF (or F-Cube) idea. We like Nathans and sometimes get them at the store. I've never actually had one from a Nathan's store/stand. Guess we'll do that if we visit back east next time.

The best airport FF I've ever had was a bowl of wonton ramen in the Narita Airport. Okay, maybe that doesn't quite qualify as FF but good nonetheless. :)

Hi K&S! Yeah it wasn't that bad for what it was. I really wanted to take the containers home with me haha.

Hi CC, totally agree! And I feel the way for something not even that fancy. I'll have to share my visit to white castle next like you had, he he. :)

Hi CAB, I forgot about international flights! I should've said at domestic terminals I guess. My worst was in Vegas. You can read about it here.

hi dennis - yeah, post your white castle experience! hopefully you didn't have an "almost ghetto fight"!

On my way through Arizona, my friend and I stopped off at a Sonic. I was sooo weirded out b/c I saw a customer ordering through a speakerphone. And all the tables had phones to order. The food is brought out by a person, but the whole impersonal experience was just too freaky for me. We ended up not ordering anything and left.

Hi CC, haha it was on 8 Mile but not quite. I forgot to buy a mug though!

Hi WC, did the carhops wear roller skates!? I think they're cool but the phones on the tables are a bit weird these days maybe..

No roller skates.

Speakerphones are understandable if we were parked outside and ordering from the carhop. This was inside the restaurant though. Just a row of empty tables and phones, no workers. It was too disconcerting for me.

Hi WC, oh man that sounds like scene from a creepy movie! I can totally see myself still sticking around though cause I'm weird like that haha.

Hi Meemalee, oh no are you into collecting these too?? I see that image is from the kid's school lunch series, he he..

hi dennis

nathan's in coney island was all right - nothing spectacular. if you like waiting 45 minutes to get a damn hot dog be my guest. it's crazy in there too!!! i heard from captain jack that pink's is much better.

Hi CC, I've been to Pinks a few times when I used to live in L.A. and they're ok. A post during a revisit here. I'm still going to try Nathan's and Gray's Papaya one day cause I like I said, the greasy stuff over there seem cooler haha. :)

hi dennis
i've tried gray's papaya too - it was okay. i'm not a hot dog expert, but i did like the new york style dogs. they had that 'snap' to them when you bite it.

ha ha, sounds nasty.

anyways, i blogged gray's papaya and nathan's in my 2007 NYC posts (see my side labels if you're curious on seeing it)...
