See the layers. The yolk and whites of the egg, the sausage meat, then the final coating of bread crumbs, all deep fried.. Sounds good! Yet at least the ones I've had so far I've been somewhat disappointed.
My first experience with a Scotch Egg was at the Princess Pub (which they no longer serve). The one in these photos are from Shakespeare Pub, complete with a gray overcast sky. Was rather flavorless and I would guess pre-made well in advance. The accompanied Chutney and extra condiments were fun to try but didn't seem to help much.
Some Wiki trivia is that despite its name the Scotch Egg was not invented in Scotland but in London, England way back in 1851..
And although the ingredients remind me of breakfast it is mainly a pub grub or a type of picnic fare snack on the go. I've heard they are available in vending machines in certain parts so perhaps it's the origin of the Protein
You can read about a giant Scotch Egg made with an Ostrich Egg here. Wow, that just made me picture an Osturducken (Ostrich -> Turkey -> Duck -> Hen). YIKES.
